Shawn Cox, Director of Golf
A member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) and 2010 San Diego PGA Junior Golf Leader of the Year, Shawn is a Level 3 Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness, Biomechanics and Junior Instructor. Using a physical screening process to identify and isolate physical limitations, he evaluates swing technique and prescribes customized conditioning for each student, including current players on the PGA and LPGA tours. 
In 2005, he received Golf Digest’s Best in State Instructor award and became the first person in Southern California to complete the PGA's specialty certification in instruction. Prior to joining The Grand Del Mar, he served as assistant head golf professional at La Jolla Country Club and Torrey Pines Municipal Golf Course, where he founded the Junior Golf Club.

Erik Wilson, Head Golf Professional
Part of The Grand Golf Club team since 2004, Erik attained the esteemed PGA of America Membership status in April 2009. Before joining The Grand, he worked for Crosswater Golf Club in Sunriver, Oregon, for five years in both golf and fine dining. A graduate from Oregon State University, he holds a bachelor's degree in exercise sports science.
Derek Uyeda, Lead Staff Instructor
Named the 2009 Southern California Section Professional Golfers' Association Teacher of the Year after receiving the award for the 2008 Teacher of the Year for the San Diego Chapter of the PGA, Derek Uyeda has specialized in state-of-the-art computerized video instruction and swing analysis since 1995. 
In 2003, he was aptly listed among the top 35 golf instructors in California in Golf Digest’s “Best Teachers in Your State” 2003-2004 edition. Derek enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels, including beginners, accomplished amateurs, collegiate players and PGA touring professionals. 

Prior to joining The Grand, Derek taught all over San Diego, including a position at Pro Kids Golf Academy, where the San Diego Chapter of the PGA named him the Assistant Golf Professional of the Year in 1999 for his development of a highly successful teaching method for juniors.

Juliet Vaughan, Staff Instructor

Juliet is a certified LPGA Class A Teaching Professional and a golf-specific fitness trainer.  She trained under golf’s top teacher, Butch Harmon, as well as Tiger’s coach as a teen, John Ansolmo.  Her extensive knowledge of the golf swing – and the body’s responsibilities in it – allows her to design the most efficient and effective golf swing for each individual.

Juliet also worked with one of the best sports psychologists in the country, Dr. Debbie Crews, on the mental aspects of “playing” the game.  Dr. Crews is the mental coach to the Arizona State Golf teams, numerous Olympic teams, and many players on the LPGA Tour.  Through her experience, Juliet can help take a “driving range” game to the course.

Dave Stockton Jr., Staff Instructor
Following an All-American career at USC, Dave Stockton Jr. played 10 years on the PGA Tour with two wins on the Nike TOUR. After his competitive playing days, Dave became an instructor, joining his brother and father, Dave Stockton Sr. – an 11-time winner on the PGA Tour, 14-time winner on the Champions Tour and widely known as one of the preeminent putting and short game gurus in the golf industry.
Phil Rodgers, Staff Instructor
Native San Diegan Phil Rodgers is a veteran golfer who played for 22 years on the PGA Tour and six years on the Senior Tour. His extensive career highlights include being named among Golf Digest’s Top 50 Instructors every year since the list’s inception; winning the NCAA Division I Championship while playing at the University of Houston; and winning five times on the PGA Tour. 
Most recently, he was inducted into the 2009 Southland Golf Hall of Fame, which lauds him as “one of the most recognized and decorated golf teachers in the world.” Perhaps best known for competing against Bob Charles in a 36-hole playoff in the 1963 British Open, Rodgers has worked with over 100 Tour players, including Jack Nicklaus.

Chris Bottalla, Staff Instructor

A member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America (PGA) and a Level 2 Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness and Junior Golf Instructor, Chris joined The Grand Golf Club team in 2010.  Previously, he worked as an assistant golf professional at Fiddler’s Creek Golf Club in Naples, Florida.  A graduate of the San Diego Golf Academy, Chris holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Exercise Sports Science from the University of Miami.

Cory McQuiddy, Staff Instructor

An alumnus of The Golf Academy of America, Cory is a Class A member of the PGA of America and a Level 2 Titleist Performance Institute Certified Golf Fitness and Junior Golf Instructor.  Prior to joining The Grand Golf Club in 2011, he was an assistant golf professional at Almaden Country Club in San Jose, California, and Shadowridge Country Club in Vista, California. Cory’s coaching philosophy focuses on developing awareness and replacing fear and doubt with confidence and enjoyment.

Trevor Young, PGA Apprentice

Since graduating in 2006 as a four-time NCAA All-American golfer at the University of Redlands, Trevor competed in and won multiple Golden State Tour events, as well as Southern California PGA Section events.  An honorable mention recipient for the 2013 US Kids Golf Top 50 Junior Coach, he is a Titleist Performance Institute Level Two Certified Golf Instructor and Junior Coach. A disciple of Carl Welty, Trevor specializes in youth instruction and the use of high-speed video. He is an avid “stat tracker,” and enjoys studying both the strategic and mental tendencies of great players.
